The five applicants who pass the document screening will receive up to 1.8 million 円 for garden construction costs!
The Tokyo Park Garden Awards, a garden contest that started in 2022, has been held in Yoyogi Park, Jindai Botanical Gardens, and Kinuta Park, and will be held for the fourth time in 2025 at Yumenoshima Park.
The biggest feature of this contest is that it has as its theme the creation of sustainable "long-life, low-maintenance flower beds" using perennial plants, etc. This makes it different from previous garden contests, and requires solid knowledge and know-how about plants and soil, in addition to design.
Yumenoshima Park, the setting for this competition, was once a garbage dump, but is now a metropolitan park with lush greenery and views of Tokyo Bay. In addition to eucalyptus trees, the park also houses the Yumenoshima Tropical Botanical Garden, which displays a variety of tropical plants, including those from the Ogasawara Islands, giving the garden a tropical feel. This time, the contestants will be creating their gardens in an area on the west side of the Tropical Botanical Garden, facing the eucalyptus forest, the symbolic tree of the park.
